Llyn-y-Fan Fach is situated in the on the western edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, South Wales.

A legend connected to this lake relates that a local shepherd witnessed a young woman emerging from the lake and fell in love with her.  She agreed to marry him on condition that he would not hit her three times. They brought up a family and lived happily for years in a nearby village called Myddfai.  Unfortunately, over time, he did hit her three times as gentle admonishments, and she had to return to the lake.

I have waited a few years for the right conditions for this snowscape of the lake with, from right to left, the peaks Cwar Du Bach, Picws Du and Fan Foel reflected on the lake's surface. Although not completely mirror-like in this shot (the wind died down a couple of hours later), it was the variations in light and shade created by the cloud formations and their reflections that took my eye.
